University of Navarra – UNAV Investment Society

What is your investment strategy? In simple terms describe your investment approach.

Based on the U.S. and the Spanish markets, we follow a Multi-Strategy Approach. Our portfolio holds long and short positions on stocks, ETFs and ETNs listed in any U.S. stock exchange. Under normal market conditions, our fund invests with a long-term horizon, but a flexible percentage of the fund can be invested with a short-term perspective in order to take advantage on the existing market conditions. All our investments are allocated towards five different portfolios: Market Neutral, Event-Driven, Tactical Trading, Volatility and CANSLIM.

What do you think about the markets now?

Even when there are reasons to believe that the U.S. markets are overvalued by around 20%, we think that bulls are still going to rule them for the next following months. We presume that a weak U.S. dollar and looser-than-expected monetary policy from the FED have been and will continue to boost economic growth. This growth combined with a strong consumer and business confidence will hold the U.S. markets bullish.

Talking about the Spanish markets and based on historical data, we believe that Spanish equities are currently undervalued. We theorize that rapid growth will come after the political situation of Catalonia is finally put to rest and investors regain the confidence in Spanish political system and start putting an eye again on this markets.

What do you think will drive the markets in the near future?
Further deregulation and a brewing tax reform are going to be two of the most important drivers. If they accomplish their objective and result in more favourable business conditions markets will continue to move even higher.
Can you tell us more about the team members and what are their background? Include licenses, certifications and other credentials.
Despite not having yet a broad experience in the working world, all members of our team share a strong passion for the world of finance. This eager interest for the Stock Market has led us to be partly self-taught and to seek additional ways to strengthen and challenge our financial knowledge. Recently, we have been participating in several investment competitions and managing paper-money portfolios using different investment tools within the University of Navarra Investment Society, a finance club that we created in 2016.
Currently, our team members are coursing the following majors at the University of Navarra:
  • Markel Donoso: International Degree in Management- Sophomore Year
  • Adrian Laredo: Double Degree in Global Economics and Law- Senior Year
  • Borja Marcaida: Double Degree in Global Management and Law- Junior Year
  • Marcelo Moreira: Double Degree in Global Management and Law- Senior Year
  • Ignacio Navarro: Double Degree in Global Economics and Law- Senior Year
What do you think about the Peeptrade University Challenge?
We are very excited to be part of this challenge. We think it is a great opportunity to get a real-world experience in investing while at the same time pit our skills against some of the best Universities. One thing that makes this challenge different from others is the fact of allowing us to interact with other experienced investors, sharing our thoughts and learn from them on a user friendly platform. Overall, we are truly happy with the challenge, taking advantage of this experience, hoping to make a good performance and meet other contestants at the final stage in Chicago.
